Health Regulations
Visitors from countries where yellow fever and cholera are endemic or from area declared infected by the WHO must present an International Vaccination Certificate. The importation of products of animal or plant origin is also restricted.
Health Care and Insurance
Healthcare services are free in Cuba for Cuban nationals with one of the most comprehensive primary health care programs in the world and the lowest infant mortality rate in Latin America. Throughout the whole country there are more than 440 polyclinics and 280 hospitals, some with wards especially for tourists.
Most hotels have medical services that guarantee primary medical care. There are international clinics in Pinar del Rio, La Habana, Varadero, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Cayo Coco, Santa Lucía, Guardalavaca and Santiago de Cuba. There are also international pharmacies in the leading tourist destinations. If you are not traveling with an insurance policy, you can purchase one on your arrival to the island through the travelers’ assistance company, ASISTUR S.A. (medical, financial and legal assistance, motor vehicles, sanitary and funeral repatriation, baggage tracing, issuance of new travel documents, airline and hotel reservations.
